Act I, Scene v of Romeo and Juliet

Today we finished off Act I of Romeo and Juliet with the masquerade ball where our star-crossed lovers meet! Here are some fun class photos. :)

I love to see these students being silly with Shakespeare in the classroom!  :)

Just in case...

Just so we are all prepared- if you were absent Monday and IF we have off of school on Tuesday- here is your literary terms assignment for Romeo and Juliet.  Just use the internet to define the terms.
Many of them are terms we have used already this year. We will continue to use them as we apply them to a more difficult text.

See you Tuesday... or Wednesday... or Thursday...

Romeo and Juliet

We are about to begin my favorite unit of the year!  I will post assignments, rubrics, and helpful links here as we go along.  There is a link to the entire online text in the left hand column as well as a link to Sparknotes, which can be very helpful to those that are struggling with the language.  We will read almost the entire novel together in class and my main objective is to foster a love of Shakespeare in my students.
We'll study Shakespeare's history, his language, and his themes, but we'll (hopefully!) manage to have fun some fun while doing it!

Last week of the 1st semester!!

Well, the best laid plans always have to be flexible!
This week we were going to finish watching Jane Eyre the first few days and then work on the study guide for your Midterm exams.  I am attaching the study guide for those of you that want to get a jump start.  I know the weeks before break were a little stressful for you with everything due all at once- just wanted to give you the option to get ahead of the game.  We'll talk in each class period about how we want to handle the remainder of this week- finish the movie vs. work on the study guide.

Your exam schedule is here:  Cuyahoga Falls HS Web Page

And your study guide is here: Enriched LA Study Guide (please excuse some of the formatting issues between word and google docs!)

Please e-mail with any questions or concerns!  Stay Warm!! :)

Discovering Jane Eyre

With our new 9 weeks we have started a new unit!
On Tuesday students were given their very own copies of the classic tale, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte.  We will be working in Literature Circles for this unit in an effort to give every student a voice withing their own groups.  They will each fulfill a different role each week and will collaborate to carry on their own group discussions.  Role Sheets and vocabulary are attached below.  :)

Final Week of the 1st grading period!

The school year is flying by and we are already bringing our first quarter to a close!  Students took a test over "The Cask of Amontillado" today and had a one-paragraph essay response to finish as a take home element of the test.  The essay is due on Monday.  Grades officially close on Friday and we will have just a few more items entered into the grade book next week.  Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about final grades!

If you missed the previous post, please also take advantage of Remind101 to stay in touch with what we're up to in the classroom!
